Orange Sweets

I have been on the hunt for orange treats.  Did I miss anything?

Tree Huggin'

I made a big batch of granola to munch on for the camping trip.  I found the recipe in ReadyMade magazine.  I think it is the best granola recipe I have encountered.  It is mix and match so it calls for an oil, sweetener, flavoring, flaked grain, small grain, nut, and fruit but then it simply lists a whole bunch of options for each and let's you know the correct measurement for the ingredient you choose.  I did olive oil, brown sugar, oatmeal, flax and wheat germ, pepitas and sunflower seeds, and dried cranberries and cherries.  The magazine does, of course, have a website but I could not find the recipe on it.  It does have a lovely picture of the magazine cover (August/September issue) that you should definitely go out and purchase right now.

Camptown Racers

Party favors for this week's camping trip?  How about harmonicas.  In years past we have just honked randomly around the fire.  This year I have a vision of melodic approximations of a song.  We will see.

Another around the fire essential---s'mores.  Last year we stumbled upon coconut marshmallows and they were a hit.  I decided to take it a step further with mix-and-match s'mores.  I have regular and chocolate graham crackers; an assortment of chocolate bars; and plain, chocolate, and strawberry marshmallows.  I haven't been able to find the coconut ones this year.  But how tasty would a s'more with chocolate graham crackers, Hersheys Almond, and a coconut marshmallow be?  I will keep looking.

Mosaic Menu

We will break for lunch during the Mosaic making party tomorrow.  I decided the food should support the Crafternoon theme.   I premade individual-sized square pizza doughs and baked them.  Then I prepared a toppings platter so people can decorate their own pizzas.  There will be pesto and marinara sauce as well as mozzarella and blue cheese.  I will be making a blue cheese and walnut pizza.  My favorite.

We also made Mosaic cookies:  giant sugar cookies with M&Ms arranged in different patterns.
