When I was thinking about this party in my head I was imagining a very calm, pleasant day. The sun is out but it is extraordinarily windy. The cardboard barn that was going to go on the driveway had to be moved into the garage. We unloaded the straw bales for extra seating right after the birthday boy swept out the garage. And then we swept again. It is wise to have a healthy respect for the weather when you are thinking about your party. Ron and I had our wedding reception in an unairconditioned building in what turned out to be the hottest day of the summer. I was nostalgic about wanting to have the event our town hall. I was not thinking of heat stroke. We planned a surprise party for my mother's birthday a few years back and fought hail and tornado warnings. Everyone showed up. When my mom tried to convince my father they should go to the party early because storms were coming, he acted like he didn't hear her and went out to mow the yard (despite ominous skies and lightening) so the surprise would not be ruined. I will keep my fingers crossed that the weather will even out before Chris's party tonight.
