The family party for my boys' birthday is tomorrow. The tradition in our house is 1) pick the menu and 2) pick your color for decorations. There have been years where the "pick your menu" has backfired with the boys trying to coordinate the meal. Case in point, the year of pancakes and macaroni and cheese. This year they both want pasta but one wants white sauce and one wants red. I am also making fresh pesto. It generally does not come together this easily. I am hoping this is a new trend versus a rare convergence. Here are some Ikea napkins my friend Tony got for me that will be perfect for the party.
Fresh picked basil for the pesto. I made a separate batch with each type. Most recipes for pesto are pretty similar. I do not have a favorite to recommend . I do like to use almonds as the nut. I think it gives it a nice flavor and texture. I've been toying with the idea of adding pepitas instead of nuts but keep chickening out.
